With the competition in industry it's tough to create memorable presentations and writings. You need a way to stand out from the pack. USING COMEDY AS A TOOL focuses on integrating comedy so you standout in the workforce or in school. The program uses the principles found in, THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO COMEDY WRITING, which was written by the workshop's teacher, James Mendrinos

The goals of the workshop are simple, teach the executive or student how to incorporate humor to make their point in a stronger and more memorable way both on the page, and in a live presentation. It teaches you how to harness the unifying, and often disarming power that comedy has, and shows you how to effectively weave that into your specific situations in a professional and socially acceptable way.

However, not all cultures have the same standards of humor, so the session will also show you how to write and utilize positive humor that is acceptable across all race and gender lines. By the time the session is over, you will know how to create humor, and when and how to best incorporate it.
 


The lecture / session will run approximately two and one half hours, and will be broken down as follows:

* The power of humor in presentations (Explaining how and why comedy is a necessary tool in any executive's arsenal.)

* A deconstruction of comedy (Breaking down what is and is not funny and why.)

* Making the comedy fit (Now that we have the theory, this is how we make it fit our specific needs.)

* Comedy for the real world (Avoiding the pitfalls of "blue," sexist, or racially insensitive comedy.)

* Comedy structure (Humor differs depending on the medium. Here's the differences between the page and the podium.)

* Laying off the throttle (When not to use comedy.)

* Humor beyond the workplace (Why we all need laughter in out lives.)

And of course there will be a Q & A with the presenter after, so that no question goes unanswered.
 


USING COMEDY AS A TOOL will also incorporate several writing exercises that the presenter, James Mendrinos, has used effectively both as an adult education teacher and in his book, THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO COMEDY WRITING.  James is also a stand-up comedian, having performed nation wide for the past 20 years, and has been seen on HBO and Comedy Central's Tough Crowd.
